Supreme over confidence and bad planning resulted in one of the bloodiest battles the Marines fought in World War Two. Because of the way the wind blew the the landing craft of the Marines got stuck on the coral reef and to wade through a few hundred feet of water. And yet on they came and over the course of three days they won. The Japanese had claimed no one could invade the island, and that determination ran into the sledgehammer of the US military.
Relive one of the worst battles of the war.
